Namyang
Dairy Products Co., Ltd. was founded on March
13, 1964, as the first general dairy products
business operation in Korea. The operation was
established with the view of expediting the
development of the nation's dairy industry and
to further contribute to the enhancement of
public health through provision of high-quality
dairy products, leading the progress made in
the industry. |
The first project undertaken since the start of the
operation was to realize import-substitution, in its
entirety, for infant, which had been wholly dominated
by foreigh imports following a series of efforts a
quality Improvement and the development of new products,
we have come to hold 75 percent of the market share
in infant formula. Also armed with high quality yogurt,
milk, cheese, fruit drink and like, we now enjoy the
greatest share in the Korean market.
In February of 1980, the largest single unit dairy
products plant, was built at Gongju, a provincial
town in the central region of the nation, for the
production of infant formula and following-up milk
powder so we could meet the ever-rising demands for
dairy products. In 1985 the production of our baby
food entitled us into a dominant position in that
market. In October of 1978, our company had the honor
of receiving a national citation from the government
for our contributions made toward the nation's dairy
industry. In 1981, the R&D center at the Gongju
plant, was established as a separate operation for
the management of our own technologies developed and
for further product research and development.
In December 1988, in order to forward the supply of
products in the nation's southeastern (youngnam) region,
an existing plant at Gyeongju, an ancient city in
that province, was taken over and refitted with an
up-to-date automation facility. This region constitutes
for about 35 percent of the entire domestic market
by the addition of the Gyeongju plant, the third following
the ones at Gongju and Cheonan, has now enabled us
to perform at an optimal competitiveness in the supply
of the wide range of dairy products.
Ever since the introduction of our operation, our
company has maintained steady growth in 1992 we emerged
as the nation's largest corporation for general dairy
with a workforce of 2,200 employees and the yearly
turnover of US$425 million for more than 120 products.
We now look to the future for a new leap forward.
There are 16 business branches located in major cities
throughout the nation. These branches are further
divided into two divisions. One for dairy products
and the other for milk based beverages. The dairy
products division manufactures infant formula, following-up
milk powder, baby food, specific infant formulas,
cheese, evaporated milk, and other types of milk powder.
The milk beverage division handles milk, yogurt, fruit
drinks, and lactic fermented beverages. A total of
4,500 salespersons canvass the market and operate
from some 800 agencies of sale throughout the country.
As the taste and preference of the Korean consumer
is incessantly westernized and diversified (in pace
with the rise in living standards), we endeavor to
devise new businesses and projects so as to make the
best use of our huge nation wide network and to hold
fast to our position as the foremost runner in the
dairy industry. |
